Accounting Manager, Canada

The Role:

As part of the strengthening its global accounting team, Spire is seeking an Accounting Manager, to be based out of the Cambridge Canada Office, who is passionate about adding value to Spire through strong focus on timely and accurate financial accounting and reporting, process improvement and automation, and a determination to continue to enhance Spire’s scalability as a public company.

We are looking for an individual with strong IFRS and U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting experience to take day-to-day accounting and reporting responsibilities for our activities in the Canada. Ensuring compliance to, and development of, related policies and procedures, you will be a key member of a growing, global Spire accounting team, and will report to the Director of Accounting / Americas Controller.

You will have the unique opportunity to have oversight of the end-to-end accounting process for our dynamic, and expanding Canada operation, and will be expected to develop strong partnerships with key operational stakeholders, both in the U.S., and throughout our global organization.  


  • Delivery of timely, and accurate financial information in accordance with our monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles.
  • Participation in the optimization of reporting policies and procedures.
  • Debt loan compliance reporting.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure compliance to customer financial reporting requirements.
  • Participation in “deal review” process to ensure compliance with ASC606 revenue recognition.
  • Become one of the “go-to” people within accounting for matters associated with Canada activity.
  • Work with and coordinate the relationship with key external professional advisors – specifically external auditors and our tax advisors.
  • Development of Canada / Americas reporting, including monthly and quarterly financial reporting packs.
  • Development of key controls in the financial reporting process

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant accounting and finance experience with at least 2 years of management experience.
  • Qualified, or part qualified, accountant (CPA, CA, CIMA, ACCA or local equivalent)
  • Strong experience of working with company-wide ERP systems (NetSuite or similar)

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to have skills:)

  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, to take on new tasks with varying levels of complexity, in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Experience of evolving and developing processes and controls.
  • Experience of working within the rigorous control environment of listed company requirements is preferable.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) including, at times, the ability to explain accounting and finance principles to non-finance people.
  • Proficient MS Excel and other relevant software packages.
  • Operates at the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
