Software Systems Architect - Space & Ground Systems Integration

Spire Global is seeking an experienced Software Architect (Space & Ground Systems Integration) to define and oversee the integration of our satellites into a customer's operational infrastructure. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and driving the implementation of systems that seamlessly bridge the gap between new space and heritage systems. 

We are looking for a seasoned software architect with a strong background in integrating complex systems, developing scalable architectures, and overseeing cross-functional teams.


What You'll Do as a Software Architect:
 

  • Define and drive the architecture for system integration 
  • Develop and maintain technical designs, specifications, and documentation to support future maintenance, upgrades, and handover of the integrated system 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand system requirements and ensure smooth communication 
  • Work closely with our software teams to integrate satellite data into customer systems 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards for security and performance 


Technical Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable architectures using technologies like Docker, Python, WebAPI, AWS, or similar technologies. 
  • Ensure a solid understanding of computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and software engineering best practices. 
  • Develop and maintain technical interfaces between Spire and customer systems. 
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of integrated systems to ensure performance, security, and reliability. 
  • Collaborate with the development team to develop new features and functionality for the integrated system. 
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and developers. 


Key Skills:

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience in software architecture, design, and development. 
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles, software design patterns, and modular programming techniques. 
  • Experience with cloud-based systems, containerization (e.g., Docker), and microservices architectures. 
  • Extensive knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering best practices. 


Preferred Qualifications / Experience:

  • Experience working with satellite-based systems, including ground stations and satellite communication protocols. 
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and threat modelling for space-based systems. 
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices. 
  • Knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, or signal processing techniques applicable to satellite data integration. 
  • Experience working at the intersection of new space organisations and high reliability legacy space organisation. 

 

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
