Spire operates a hybrid work environment and this position will need to report to our Boulder, CO office on a regular basis (schedule to be determined based on shifts/coverage). 

What You'll Do:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Forecast Meteorologist/Risk Communicator to join our team. As a Forecast Meteorologist, you will be responsible for analyzing meteorological data and providing accurate and timely weather forecasts and information for our customers. This is a shift work position, requiring flexibility in working hours to cover various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have a passion for meteorology and weather forecasting.

  1. Analyze meteorological data from various sources, including weather satellites, radar, weather stations, and numerical weather prediction models.
  2. Monitor and interpret weather patterns, atmospheric conditions, and climate data to develop accurate weather forecasts.
  3. Utilize specialized weather forecasting software, models, and tools to generate forecasts and predictions for specific regions and timeframes.
  4. Collaborate with a team of meteorologists and weather experts to exchange information, discuss forecasting methodologies, and refine forecast accuracy.
  5. Prepare and deliver weather forecasts, updates, and briefings to internal teams, clients, and the general public through various mediums, such as reports, presentations, websites, and social media platforms.
  6. Respond promptly to inquiries and provide expert advice and guidance on weather-related matters.
  7. Stay updated with the latest advancements and trends in meteorology, weather prediction models, and forecasting techniques.
  8. Monitor weather conditions and provide real-time alerts and warnings for severe weather events, such as hurricanes, storms, and extreme temperatures.
  9. Participate in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions, to enhance forecasting skills and knowledge.

Who You Are:

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field. Advanced degrees are advantageous.
  2. Proven experience in weather forecasting, meteorological analysis, or a related field.
  3. Strong knowledge of meteorological principles, atmospheric dynamics, and weather patterns.
  4. Familiarity with meteorological data sources, weather satellites, radar systems, and weather station instruments.
  5. Proficiency in using weather forecasting software, numerical weather prediction models, and data visualization tools.
  6. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex meteorological data accurately.
  7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey weather information effectively to diverse audiences.
  8. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  9. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  10. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in weather forecasting and reporting.
  11. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  12. Professional certifications or memberships in meteorology-related organizations are advantageous.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $72,000 to $90,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the location, skills, experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for annual equity awards and our employee benefits program, including vacation, sick, and personal time off; optional medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage; a 401(K) plan; health and wellness reimbursement program; and participation in Spire’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
