8 Spire-built satellites launch with OroraTech infrared cameras for wildfire detection from space
Equipped with OroraTech’s advanced infrared cameras, Spire’s 8U satellites will be deployed on Rocket Lab’s Electron to enhance wildfire monitoring and detection, providing critical real-time data for fire response and prevention.
This launch also marks Spire’s 200th satellite in orbit—a testament to our commitment to delivering space-based innovation.
Meet the LEMURs
What will these satellites accomplish in orbit?
Our eight LEMUR satellites, launching aboard Rocket Lab’s mission, will track wildfires worldwide from space with cutting-edge infrared technology. Each satellite is equipped with OroraTech’s advanced infrared cameras, seamlessly integrated into Spire’s LEMUR 8U satellites.
This launch marks a major step toward commercializing OroraTech’s wildfire monitoring vision. Our collaboration extends beyond this mission, as we also partner with the Canadian Space Agency to develop WildFireSat, a dedicated wildfire detection and monitoring system.
Explore the full scope of OroraTech and Spire’s collaboration
From early demonstration to commercial deployment, OroraTech and Spire have built a focused partnership to enable and deliver space-based thermal intelligence and wildfire monitoring. Each step—from spacecraft design to launch—was coordinated to bring thermal intelligence monitoring into orbit quickly and effectively, supporting response efforts in high-risk regions worldwide. OroraTech: From concept to constellation
OroraTech FOREST-1
This payload was hosted on a Spire LEMUR as a proof-of-concept demonstration of Ororatech’s payload technology and operating principles.
OroraTech FOREST-2
This was a dedicated platform for OroraTech. It was a pilot mission with full commercial payload and a large field of view.
OroraTech OTC-P1
This launch is a group of 8 satellites. This will increase platform performance and includes propulsion for operations as a constellation.
Monitor wildfires
“As Spire’s first customer to fly their 8U satellite, OroraTech has progressed from prototyping to full-scale commercial deployment alongside Spire. With this launch, OroraTech will reach a commercially viable scale. Spire has been an excellent partner for this mission, greatly enhancing OroraTech’s speed of deployment of our thermal cameras to monitor wildfires with greater precision. Access to real-time data allows us to deliver critical insights, helping protect communities, preserve resources, and promote a more sustainable future.”
