Senior Accountant, EMEA
As part of the strengthening its global Accounting and Finance team, Spire is seeking a Senior Accountant to be based in Glasgow. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive and passionate about adding value to Spire through strong focus on timely and accurate financial accounting and reporting, process documentation and compliance, and a determination to continue to enhance Spire’s scalability.
We are looking for a motivated and flexible individual, a self-starter, eager to learn and with a willingness to pick up a varied range of tasks. The successful candidate will most likely be recently ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualified. You will be a valued member of a small, but growing, global Spire accounting team, reporting directly to the EMEA Controller.
You will have the unique opportunity to join a recently publicly listed company, helping to develop and document the new processes required in a Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) controls environment, and providing assistance with a wide range of tasks which will afford you a solid foundation and understanding of the requirements to succeed and develop in a high-performing accounting function.
What You'll Do:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
- Supporting the delivery of timely, and accurate financial information in accordance with our monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles
- Preparation of prepayments and accruals, and other journal entry processing
- Collaboration with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and supporting explanations for our EMEA areas
- Enhancement of the documentation of our desktop procedures
Payroll & Compliance:
- Manage and oversee the UK payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC regulations, including PAYE, NI, and pension contributions
- Liaise with HR and finance teams to resolve any payroll discrepancies or queries
- Prepare and submit payroll-related tax filings and reports, including Employee Related Securities (ERS) and PAYE self-assessment (PSA)
- Ensure payroll journals are correctly recorded in the accounting system
- Provide cover for Luxembourg, Germany and Singapore payroll processes
- Support various SOX compliance initiatives
Fixed Asset Controls & Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement new processes for satellite manufacturing fixed assets tracking and control
- Ensure accurate capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of assets in line with accounting policies
- Conduct periodic fixed asset audits
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in asset management, tracking and control
Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
- Perform and enhance monthly EMEA balance sheet reconciliation process, ensuring completeness and accuracy
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly
- Assist in maintaining a robust financial control environment, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Explore and implement FloQast process improvements, adopting and sharing best practice
Other Duties:
- Support finance projects and system improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Work closely with other departments to improve financial processes and controls
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting and payroll regulations, ensuring compliance
Key Skills:
- ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification, or qualified by experience
- Minimum of 5 years relevant accounting and finance experience
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, to take on new tasks with varying levels of complexity, in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Experience with fixed asset accounting and process improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of UK payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience of working within the rigorous control environment of listed company requirements is preferable
- Excellent analytical skills, high attention to detail and pride in presenting financial information in a clear and concise, professional manner
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders across different levels
- Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Xero, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
