Meeting global connectivity challenges with ‘Software in Space’
Unlocking space-enabled scalable opportunities for IoT services through global, high-revisit rate, low-latency connectivity delivering more data and higher data relay via satellites.
Spire Space Services and Myriota joining together to bring satellite connectivity to IoT users.
About Myriota
Australia-based Myriota is a global direct-to-orbit (non-terrestrial network) IoT communications leader on a mission to deliver better outcomes for people and our planet through simple-to-use IoT solutions that “just work”, anywhere. The company has a growing constellation of satellites that deliver its IoT service and nearly a decade of customer-driven research and product development, applying these technologies using nanosatellite-based software-defined radios. They are known for their product’s security and battery life which surpasses the nearest alternative by 10-30 times.
To accelerate the firm’s global service expansion, Myriota partnered with Spire Global – the leading provider of space services.
Challenge
IoT devices are becoming increasingly common in everyday life, commerce, government, and households. The growing demand for connectivity, capacity, and security has led to the rise of the Satellite IoT category, addressing global economic opportunities.
Myriota needed a very fast solution for proof of concept to de-risk further development. Needing to expand their existing satellites, Myriota needed access to Spire’s existing satellite constellation and global operations platform, providing rapid access to orbit, with no time to build new ones.

Satellites in orbit enable IoT services and products to meet their users’ needs anytime, anywhere, unlocking economic potential where traditional cellular connectivity struggles
Solution
Myriota partnered with Spire Global when they needed a scalable solution to deliver diverse and robust solutions to their increasing connectivity challenges. Through Spire’s ‘Software in Space’ solution, Myriota’s network software was adapted, tested for its commercial viability, and uploaded to Spire’s constellation, in parallel to its technological development. Tapping into Spire’s existing satellite constellation and ground station network, Myriota’s software gained immediate access to a global service, without the need to build, launch and operate their own constellation.
A visualization of how Spire’s ‘Software in Space’ solution delivers for Myriota, enabling scalable capacity with growing demand:

1Spire-licensed links communicate between LEMUR satellites and Spire ground stations networks through data and TT&C links.

2The data is transferred through Spire to Myriota Operations teams.

3This data feeds into the Myriota cloud which lands into the hands of their end users.

4The end users then communicate via Myriota Space-to-Earth and Earth-to-Space links, back to LEMUR satellites.
