Apogee

Apogee is a point in a satellite’s orbital trajectory, representing the furthest distance from the celestial body it orbits, such as Earth. In Earth orbits, the apogee marks the highest point along the satellite’s path.

As the satellite orbits around the celestial body, gravitational forces govern its motion, resulting in a continuous change in distance from the celestial body’s center. At the apogee, the satellite reaches its maximum altitude, reaching the farthest point from the Earth’s surface.

The apogee is a critical orbital parameter that, along with the perigee (the point closest to the celestial body), determines the overall shape and size of the satellite’s orbit. Together, the apogee and perigee define the eccentricity of the orbit. An orbit with an eccentricity close to zero is nearly circular, while higher eccentricities result in more elongated or elliptical orbits.
