Supply Base Development Manager, Supply Chain Operations

The Role: 

This role requires a close working relationship with project managers, engineering, and manufacturing to provide thought leadership in the design, development and implementation of sourcing and commodity strategies to deliver best in class Cost, Quality, Availability and Time to Market solutions for new and sustaining products; whilst ensuring the Spire supply chains are compliant, fit for purpose and a strategic enabler/ disruptor for Spire’s explosive growth.

As the Supply Base Development Manager at Spire Global, you will be a key enabler in ensuring Spire’s supply chains meet and exceed the needs of the business and deliver a competitive advantage. 


  • Responsible for the design and development of Spire supply chains to ensure current and future supplier capacity and capabilities align to Spire business requirements.
  • Develop and drive external manufacturing, commodity and sourcing strategies and provide the appropriate framework for their implementation.
  • Product Life Cycle leadership in Supply Chain Ops from NPI to EOL
  • Leadership of a team of NPI buyers.
  • Responsible for managing global cost, lead-time of materials and services procured from the supply base.
  • Ownership of the strategic and commercial supplier relationships, promoting e-collaboration as a key enabler to success.
  • Drive excellence in Supplier Management Strategy and Practices
  • Support Supply Chain Execution in the tactical management of supply base and achievement of on time delivery & inventory management goals.
  • Focal point for engagement with Project Managers and Product/Design Engineering on New Product Introductions.
  • Leadership for Breakthru Supply Chain initiatives to drive innovation in the supply chain.

Basic Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Proven global sourcing, procurement, due diligence and SRM best practice experience is essential.
  • Commercial, legal, and financial acumen with a strategic growth mindset.
  • Deep understanding of global manufacturing, operations, and supply chain processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving supply chain transformations, e-procurement and integration of Spire/Supplier systems.
  • Experience of working within fast moving high-reliability industries.
  • A strong understanding of risk management in the context of global suppliers and supply chains.
  • Excellent leadership skills with an ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Strong people manager and influencer.
  • Agile with the ability to deal with fast moving and challenging situations.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Hands on knowledge of ERP solutions (Netsuite/Oracle beneficial).
  • MCIPS or equivalent industry experience.
  • Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, 6 sigma).
  • Demonstrated experience in Design for Manufacture, Design for Lead Time and Design for Cost practices.
