Spire Global Names New Maritime GM and Expands Its Data and Analytics Services
The largest multi-purpose satellite constellation announces new maritime leadership
December 17, 2020 (SAN FRANCISCO) Spire Global, a space powered data and analytics platform, today announced that Simon van den Dries has been promoted to Maritime General Manager. With a group spanning all continents, Simon is responsible for the business, strategy, product development and commercial relations.
“Simon has played a critical role in building the Spire Maritime business over the past 2 years and I am thrilled to welcome him as our new General Manager. Simon has outstanding operational experience and is a strategic visionary whose customer-first mentality will allow us to take advantage of market opportunities ahead. I could not be happier for his promotion and what the future holds for our Maritime business.” said John Lusk, VP Global Data Services.
Simon was promoted after playing an integral role in increasing new business opportunities in Spire’s maritime and maritime weather verticals. Spire’s maritime business unit showed a large multiple in bookings in 2019 as the unit undertook expansion in many forms: expanding into Asia, creating its first weather product for the maritime industry and offering continuous innovation in vessel AIS tracking.
Spire has become an industry-standard in the commercial maritime sector. The company has launched several new strategic partnerships this year, including deals with global organizations, governments and and many leading companies in the shipping logistics, application service providers, finance and insurance and trade sectors.
With a focus on continuous improvement, Simon and his team are transforming both the maritime industry and the organic growth of individual organizations through the use of data and analytics. Spire Maritime will do this in 2021 by focusing investments on maritime weather and adding new features to serve the maritime analytics market.
“Spire Maritime will add embedded analytics and maritime weather to its 2021 product launches. This will expand our portfolio of products and deliver additional value to customers across all segments of the Maritime industry,” said Van den Dries.
As of November 2020, Spire has 104 satellites on orbit and achieved the milestone of creating the world’s first commercial weather satellite constellation, tripling the world’s availability of precise atmospheric radio occultation measurements. These advancements support Spire Maritime as the trusted source for open ocean weather data.
