What will these satellites accomplish in orbit?
Monitor soil moisture and improve global weather forecasts
Two satellites will capture soil moisture by integrating radio occultation and reflectometry technologies on a single platform. This dual capability will measure the Earth’s state from the atmosphere to the ground to improve weather forecasts.
Why it matters
Spire’s Soil Moisture Insights enables farmers to produce abundant crop yields and predict potential crop-health issues. It can also help predict wildfires before they occur and help mitigate the dangers of landslides and droughts.
Enhance global connectivity
Four satellites carrying software defined radios (SDRs) designed by Spire will collect and relay signals for Myriota. Myriota is a direct-to-orbit (Non-Terrestrial Network) IoT communications leader on a mission to deliver simple to use IoT solutions that “just work”, anywhere. These satellites enhance Myriota’s global coverage to provide reliable connectivity for smart devices worldwide.
The multipurpose satellites will also track ships and gather weather data for Spire’s data offerings.
