This is a track of five ships with international voyages. The ships had a high velocity and volume of AIS reports, particularly satellite AIS reports when operating in deep ocean and out of the range of terrestrial AIS.
Data statistics
Plot of position reports by source. 95% Satellite AIS and 5% from terrestrial AIS.
On average, each ship was picked up in 15 hour periods every day showing a high level of refresh for the ship position.
Position reports received each day per ship over the duration of the sample period
This chart shows the hourly frequency of messages received by MMSI each day.
Counting the number of unique hour periods each day during which a ships position was reported.
