Spire Global is a space-to-cloud analytics company that owns and operates the largest multi-purpose constellation of satellites. Its proprietary data and algorithms provide the most advanced maritime, aviation, and weather tracking in the world. In addition to its constellation, Spire’s data infrastructure includes a global ground station network and 24/7 operations that provide real-time global coverage of every point on Earth.

Spire Global is seeking a confident and experienced DSP engineer to become a key contributor on satellite payloads. Projects are diverse, and fast-paced and include work with numerous standards. The right candidate will have strong analytical skills and be familiar with digital modulation schemes as well as software-defined radio techniques.

To succeed in the role, you will be able to write high-quality and productionized software for embedded platforms and develop state-of-the-art DSP algorithms.

You will be a member of a multidisciplinary satellite team working on radio receiver development. You will be involved with the development for our full software stack on the ground as well as on our satellites. Key job functions will include performing DSP architecture, signal processing simulation, hardware/software integration, test plan development and test execution.

As part of your role, you will:

  • Develop the signal processing algorithms and codes to turn raw RF sensor measurements into valuable products for a wide variety of global customers
  • Translate, augment, and implement prototyped algorithms into productionized ideas for use on the data processing pipeline as well as on on-orbit.
  • Conceive and scope projects based on services such as signal detection, acquisition, and geolocation derived from raw data sets collected by satellites
  • Develop HW design for high-performance multi-channel receivers and baseband processors
  • Develop algorithms using matched filter processing for the detection and extraction of both known and unknown signal types
  • Develop tools and codes to characterize raw RF data sets (SNR, modulation type, etc.)
  • Analyze existing data sets and plan future campaigns to collect new data sets based on customer requirements
  • Help support implementing real-time DSP algorithms and testing them on a custom embedded board (signal detection and tracking algorithms, FFTs, correlation of signals, Doppler mapping etc.)
  • Help with the testing of DSP algorithms to verify they meet execution requirements, mathematical correctness, and stable runtime operation

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Have knowledge of Software-Defined Radio (e.g. GNU Radio, USRP)
  • Development experience with signal processing algorithms (FFT, correlation, Doppler maps etc.
  • Experience with detection, classification, and estimation techniques and theory
  • Experience in HW design for high-performance multi-channel receivers and baseband processors
  • Able to write production-quality C/Python DSP code
  • Able to write highly optimized C or assembly code for embedded platforms
  • Data-driven and evidence-based work methodology
  • Have thorough knowledge of signaling principles (e.g. modulation, filtering etc.)
  • Have solid background and understanding of communications theory including Shannon limits, high data rate communications, hardware and software related techniques

Strong candidates will also possess skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience in HW design for massive MIMO applications and beamforming, using high-speed ADCs, high-speed serial interconnects, multiple FPGAs, or RFSoC
  • Demonstrated experience with digital beamforming
  • Demonstrated experience with ADS-B demodulators
  • Architect and Implement DSP functions in Xilinx FPGAs and Linux-based ARM platforms
  • Experience in HW design for massive MIMO applications and beamforming, using high-speed ADCs, high-speed serial interconnects, multiple FPGAs, or RFSoC
  • Competency with RF/wireless test and measurement laboratory equipment
  • RF Hardware design experience in frontend design, antenna design, etc.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in office.

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required. #LI-DC1
