Program Director for Strategic Data Acquisition

Spire operates a hybrid-work business model and this position will need to work from our Cambridge, ON office 3x per week to support location specific programs. We unfortunately cannot have this resource located in any other Spire location.

We invite a visionary Program Director for Strategic Data Acquisition to join our ranks, reporting directly to the CEO. This pivotal role demands as much a strategic thinker as a meticulous implementer, adept at spearheading and flawlessly executing initiatives to discover, secure, and integrate groundbreaking data sources that fuel our growth and enhance our data portfolio.   

You will navigate a program of strategic significance, scouting for and implementing data that not only complements but elevates our existing datasets, and ensuring seamless integration into our Data Vault through partnerships or infrastructural advancements.  

Your Role and Impact:

As our Program Director, you will embody the spirit of innovation, leadership, and execution, meticulously overseeing every facet of the program—from conception to fruition. Your responsibilities will encompass: 

• Designing and implementing the execution of a comprehensive strategy for data acquisition, emphasizing speed, efficiency, and innovation
• Fostering global partnerships and deploying diverse infrastructure to enrich our data offerings
• Engaging closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring operational excellence and strategic alignment
• Managing resources judiciously, adhering to budgets and timelines, and surpassing ambitious targets

What You’ll Do:

• Lead development and maintenance of comprehensive program plans to enable appropriate resourcing, execution, monitoring and control
• Lead a small, dedicated, and tight-knit team 
• Drive and influence on-time, within scope, and within budget delivery of the target program
• Lead collaboration with finance, procurement, manufacturing and engineering disciplines to manage program deliveries
• Perform proactive risk management, actively working to mitigate and retire program risks
• Develop high-level knowledge of Spire RF technology (hardware and software), and data products to coordinate with the relevant internal and external stakeholders, escalating to and working with Spire technical teams and subject matter experts as required
• Lead development of schedules, scope, risk and cost assessments for new procurement / partnership proposals
• Influencing skills, establishing and maintaining relationships that promote a successful program outcome

Key Skills:

• Experience in managing complex infrastructure deployment programs
• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or applicable field of study or equivalent work experience
• Successful track record driving resource, scope, and schedule management across multiple programs simultaneously
• Self-motivated, hands-on, and proactive with the ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to shape solutions out of complexity
• Flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity and issues
• Proven track record of building and leading small, high-performing teams of exceptional, highly motivated individuals 
• Experience interfacing and negotiating directly with third parties (suppliers, partners, etc.)
• Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to win the confidence of highly skilled engineers and executive staff alike
• Adept at building consensus across cross-functional teams
• Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
• Strong English language verbal and written communication

Preferred Skills:

• Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification or equivalent
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products
